Beavertown 5K Fall Classic

Lincoln Park, NJ

This race was on, then off, then on again for me. I had this one tentatively penciled in a few weeks ago, but decided to hold off on signing up until after I did last Saturday’s Halloween 5K in Caldwell. Then last Saturday’s Caldwell race became yesterday’s Caldwell race thanks to the ridiculous snowstorm, so I was glad I didn’t sign up for Lincoln Park. Then on Friday I learn that the Caldwell race has been postponed again (to the spring), so I can run Lincoln Park after all.

I first ran this race last year; it’s a nice race in a nice town. The course begins and ends in Lincoln Park’s business district and zigzags though a residential area. The hill at the beginning is a bridge over a railroad, the rest of the course is very flat, almost as much as the Run for Marge course in neighboring Pequannock. The final 1/2 mile is on one of the main roads in the area.

Just like last year, there were two or three water stops but no mile markers or split times. Also like last year, it was cold at first (30s) but warmed up.

I was reasonably pleased with how I ran but was kicking myself for half the race for forgetting my gloves!

Looking at Compuscore, about 200 people ran and about half of them are from Lincoln Park. I don’t think anyone else from Essex ran this one.
