I don’t know if this was a new race, but it was a bit disorganized. Us runners congregated around the starting line waiting for an official to make the usual introduction. There was none of that: just a siren to signal that we should start running.
No one had time to even set their watches. Maybe the lack of an organized start led me to go out too fast. I hit the first mile in 4:30. It occurred to me that either the marker was placed incorrectly, or maybe I should quit my job. Anyway…. I pressed on.
Eventually, the hills and the gusty headwind would wind up doing me in, but my result would only be one-second off my year’s best, and that course was much easier than this one.

Wanted to report on a new race that I did on 9/8, it was the called the 4 Miler At Garrett Mountain.
I believe this was the first time they ran it. It was pretty well organized, not sure of the dudes name but the MC was same guy that did Teterboro 5K. It was a 2-loop course around the mountain, the hills were pretty extreme. They had a decent selection of snack bars, banana, & bagels after the race. And he had random prizes at the end of the awards, that usually keeps me around. I ran into fellow member Dan Smith at the event and had a nice chance to reconnect as there were no other folks that I knew or club members that I saw.
Between the two of us, we got 2/3 of our age group covered for the awards, which had really nice medals.

35th Not Quite Fall Classic 4 Mile – August 26th – Nomahegan Park, Cranford, NJ
41st Gerald Velli 28:45.21
I wanted to share another race that I did on 8/26 which is called the Not Quite Fall Classic run by the Central Jersey Road Runners. I usually don’t do this race since the course is the same as the Firecracker 4 Miler but I guess I was having withdrawal from not racing in 5 weeks. It turned out to be a good day to run as the weather was pretty good and I shatter my previous 4 mile best by 40 seconds with a time of 28:45, not sure what got into me that day as I was within a minute or so of many runners who are WAY faster than me.
Here are those results. http://www.compuscore.com/cs2012/aug/fallclas.htm
