NYC Duathalon–March 24, 2013, by Sue Palermo

Beverly Salerno and I did the NYC Central Park Duathlon (run, bike, run) as our Multi-Sport “Season Opener” last Sunday, March 24.
The duathlon started with a 2.2 mile run up Cat Hill. Yes — the start was ON the hill. Then we ran to a turnaround on 92nd street and back down Cat Hill. Our bike ride was 2 counter-clockwise loops around Central Park, so we had to bike up Harlem Hill (125th St) twice. Since January, we’ve run/rode Harlem Hill 6 times! I found the bike ride easier than running, but Beverly was just the opposite — until her second time on HH when she finally figured out her bike gears. The second run was a repeat of the first (more Cat Hill).
I was happy with our performance for the first race of our Season 3, and we both realize that the transitions from run-to-bike and bike-to-run are areas to work on.
We’ll keep everyone updated on our progress with races, both on land and sea.
And, btw, Tom Daniels and his lovely wife Donna were there doing the duathlon, You never know where you’ll see ERC people!
