Boston Marathon

The Essex Running Club extends its deepest sympathies to all those who were affected by Monday’s events. Those who lost their lives and were injured are in our thoughts and prayers.

To quote what was eloquently said by the BAA (Boston Athletic Association), the hosts of the marathon; “It is a sad day for the City of Boston, for the running community, and for all those who were here to enjoy the 117th running of the Boston Marathon. What was intended to be a day of joy and celebration quickly became a day in which running a marathon was of little importance. “.

But Boston is strong. Boston is resilient. The Boston Marathon is a deeply held tradition that the BAA is committed to continuing with the running of the 118th Boston Marathon in 2014.

On Thursday night April 18th, we coordinated with Fleet Feet Montclair to have their run be a Boston Marathon sympathy run. We are committed that what happened will not detract us from running and from the support of a 117 year tradition!

We were also fortunate to have the services of Ann de Jong, a Crisis Counselor,  who said a few words of wisdom before the run. Thank you Ann. Her words have also been posted on this site:

Finally, I also wanted to let everyone know that a special fund has been setup to assist those who were most affected by the tragic events that occurred in Boston on April 15, 2013. See onefundboston.org for more information and to contribute.
