Revolutionary Run 10K – Washington Crossing Historic Park, PA – July 4th

Knowing that I have an upcoming marathon scheduled next month in Washington Crossing Park, PA (across the river from Titusville, NJ), I decided to run the 33rd Annual Revolutionary Run 10k today at the Washington Crossing Historic Park.

The course did not disappoint, run on a road next to the river, it was fast and hard, however my performance was disappointing. I started fast but at mile 3 I had a coughing fit and started to slow down. By mile 4 I was down to 8 minute miles (from 7 minute miles).

I eventually finished in: 46:25 and was thankful for that:

Memorial Day Marathon 10K - Lenox, MA - May 26th 2013
Laura Gelman -    46:24
The Memorial Day Marathon Races is a 2-day festival in Lenox, MA that has been coined the "Toughest Marathon in the East."  In the 4 years since it's inception I have run the marathon (2010), 15k trail race (2012), 5k (2012), and now the 10k (2013).  The unseasonable weather this year was monsoon-like at times with 40 degree temps, 20 mph winds, and rain hitting the runners from all directions but the festival was in full swing with bands, awesome swag, and a handful of spectators - including a few bear sightings on the course!  I'm thrilled that my time of 46:24 was good enough for 3rd Female on this incredibly challenging course that starts with a steep .75 mile down hill, ends with a 2 mile steady climb, and is packed with rolling hills in the middle.  It is also a PR for me, although my last 10k was in 2006. My two daughters, my mom, my sister and my niece also braved the elements and completed the 5k.  Zoe Gelman (age 8) was 30:10 and Yael Gelman (age 11) was 31:38.  If you find yourself in the Berkshires for Memorial Day Weekend, this is a running festival not to be missed.
