At the Races

Run for the Roses 5k, June 8, 2014–John Harvey

2014 Run for the RosesThe Essex Running Club was very well represented in Roseland NJ, at this weekend’s 32nd Run for the Roses 5k race. The W.E.T. Warriors (the name members of the club who regularly run on the West Essex Trail call themselves.) joined Jen Tomsey, who invited the group to celebrate her birthday by running in this, her hometown event. We couldn’t ask for better conditions. The small field – with only 87 runners, found the out-and-back loop pretty challenging, as reflected in the slower than expected times; with the last mile all up-hill. But a lot of ‘bling’ and a few roses were received by the ERC members. After the awards ceremony Jen’s parents hosted the group for a well appreciated breakfast in their well-manicured home and garden.

Congratulations to all club members many winning their first running awards. And a happy birthday to Jen who won 2nd place in her age group.
