Weekly Posting–August 18th:  Highlights this week and in future weeks:

We finish the summer  the beginning of the speedwork sessions, an “End of Summer Run” hosted by Randi and Elsa, and the Smoke Rise Biathlon.  See the details below.

Wednesday August 20th. 7:00 p.m.  Beginning of Speedwork Sessions—See other postings and the August newsletter. (As of tonight, we still have 8 openings left.  You must preregister.)

Thursday August 21st. 7:00 p.m. (not 7:30 p.m.) End of Summer Run, Randi Cohen and Elsa Slater. 2 Varick Way, Roseland.   It’s been an eventful summer for a busy club.

Saturday August 23rd. Smoke Rise Biathlon. Swim and 5K at the Smoke Rise Community in Kinnelon. All club members and friends are invited to participate in the 14th annual Biathlon at Smoke Rise in Kinnelon on Sat, Aug 23 at 10:00 am. This “Battle at the Beach” features a beautiful lake course with a 1/3 mile swim and a 5K run. Afterwards there will be music, food and fun on the beach. You can compete either as an individual or as a team (1 swimmer & 1 runner). If you’ve never done a biathlon, this is a great place to start. Spectators, cheerleaders and volunteers are also welcome to attend.

Sunday August 31st – Jimmy D. 5K (9:00am). This race is held in New Brunswick in memory of fire fighter, James D’heron. It’s host to the USATF-NJ Masters Women’s 5K Championship on a fast course with a stadium finish on the track. Post race activities include a BBQ and beer garden.

Monday September 1st, Verona Labor Day Classic (9:00am) – The club is organizing this popular race in Verona Park on Labor Day again this year in conjunction with Verona UNICO. There’s a 1 mile fun run and health walk at 9:00am followed by the 5K at 9:30am. Online registration is now open at (no extra fees for online registration). We need as many people as possible to volunteer to help make this a safe and successful event. Even if you plan to run, you can still help out before or after the race. We also need people to help with packet pickup and preregistration at Fleet Feet on Labor Day weekend. Sunday September 7th, 9:00 a.m. Doug Williams 5000 Meter Run – Start and Finish at Tierney’s in Montclair NJ. 500 Point Grand Prix race

Sunday September 14th, 7:00 a.m. Eagle Rock 9/11 Memorial Run from Fleet Feet, Montclair. 13 Mile Run mostly on the tree lined streets of Montclair with an extension up Snake Hill to the 9/11 Memorial in Eagle Rock Reservation.  Contact Mick Close for more information.

Club General Meeting September 15th: Speaker Tony Nogueira World Class Wheelchair racer and local resident Tony Nogueira will be speaking. Cover charge is $5 for members and guests. Food will be served. Stay tuned for more details.
