Newport Liberty Half Marathon, September 21, 2014–Mick Close

The warm and very humid weather made it a tough day at the Newport Liberty Half yesterday with most people running much slower than they had hoped. Some people just used it as a training run while others still tried to race it. The race was the USATF-NJ Half Marathon Championship again this year and there was another record turnout with almost 3,000 runners. Fleet Feet / Essex was well represented in the team competition with teams in the women’s open (10th) and in the men’s open (10th), masters 40+ (9th) and masters 50+ (5th). Special thanks to Stacy Marcus and Laura Messina for showing up at several points along the course to cheer us on. The support of the teams and the cheerleaders really helped keep me going when my body was screaming to stop!
