Hartford Marathon, October 11, 2014–Pia LoPresti

It all started on a cold, humid, rainy day in Hartford, CT. Ryen and I lined up for our 12th marathon, clad in throwaway rain gear and not really knowing what to expect after a not-so-smooth training season. But we figured, why not go for our goal paces and just see what happens…How bad can more »

Doug Williams 5000M, Sept. 7, 2014–Mick Close

It was a beautiful day for the Doug Williams Memorial 5,000 Meter run and most people seemed to like the new course from Tierney’s Tavern to Anderson Park and back. Top finishers from the club were Glen Freyer (3rd overall, 18:17), Larry Czaplewski (4th overall, 18:55), Rebecca Walter (2nd women, 21:33) and Karen Merz (4th more »

Verona Labor Day Classic, September 1, 2014–Mick Close

VERONA LABOR DAY CLASSIC Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped make yesterday’s race another great success. There were 119 finishers in the 1 Mile and 507 in the 5K, slightly down from last year, but I think the hot and humid weather may have reduced the number of race day registrations. The club more »

Garrett Mountain 4 Miler, Sept, 6, 2014–Martta Kelly

Since we had so much fun at the Garret Mountain 4 miler last year, we decided to run it again this year. An unwelcome guest named Humidity followed us there this year, however, making the experience a bit of a grueling one.  Still, we had fun, both of us medaled, and I won a Timex more »

Teterboro 5K (or was it?), July 19, 2014–Martta Kelly

Cross the 2.99-mile race off my bucket list!  Yes, that is what we ran today at Teterboro, billed as a 5K but as anyone with a Garmin agreed, fell short.  Oh well, the excitement was short-lived as those of us without running watches approached the finish line and viewed our “best time of the season” more »

Woodbridge Run for Pizza 4 Miler, July 9, 2014–Martta Kelly

Holy soup, Batman! That’s what it felt like running 4 miles through the streets of Woodbridge last night for the annual pizza run (not to be confused with the Westfield Pizza 5K, which is later this month and has better pizza!) Despite the humidity, all three of us (me, Tom, and Gerry Velli) medaled. A more »

Spring Lake 5, May 24, 2014–Don Manfria

This just might be my favorite short distance race, from the number of participants (this year there were close to 12,000) to the after race goodies. The Spring Lake 5 was race #2 in my 4 race test to see how my knee responds. I saw a number of Essex runners this past Saturday running: more »

Boston Marathon, April 21, 2014–Mick Close

Here are the results for the ERC finishers. The heat and hills slowed many people in the second half of the race but it was an incredible day and very emotional running down Boylston St. The crowds were amazing, very loud and holding so many signs “Boston Strong”, “Run as One”, “It’s Our City”, etc. more »

Sunset Classic, June 27, 2013–Mick Close

I missed the race last night but it sounds like it was over before all the rain! No beer but it looks like everyone enjoyed the ice cream. The club was well represented again with lots of award winners and Glen Freyer had his third PR in 10 days (President’s Cup, Lager Run and Sunset more »
